Hello lovelies! Can you believe it is already Wednesday? I am really looking forward to this weekend, because I need a break and I need to catch up on some extra Z’s! Like I told you the other day, I need to take better care of myself and get some sleep, because I feel like I keep trying to get sick. Well, speaking of taking care of yourself, today I thought it would be fun to share with you an awesome super-food that you should start adding to you diet, as long as you have no wheat allergies! Have you heard of “Raw Wheat Germ”? If you haven’t I am happy you stopped by Fashionably Living, because I am going to tell you how good it is for you. Raw Wheat Germ is rich in Vitamin E, first class proteins and is an outstanding source of Vitamin B1. Dr. OZ has spoke about it on his show several times and all its amazing health benefits. In fact, the germ is actually the embryo of the wheat plant. This embryo will eventually nourish the new wheat plan. This is the reason why it has so many wonderful nutrients. Unfortunately, this kernel, which includes the wheat germ, is tragically removed during the refining of whole wheat grains to white flour. During the manufacturing process, it is removed because its healthy oils can go rancid quickly, thus removing it makes it easier for food production companies to keep wheat in storage much longer (Pina LoGiudice ND, LAc and Peter Bongiorno ND, LAc).
Face it, wheat germ is a nutrition standout. It’s one of the best sources of folic acid. That’s good news, since it’s recommended that all women of childbearing age get sufficient amounts of this nutrient to prevent neural-tube birth defects. Folic acid reduces a compound in your body called homocysteine. Lower levels of homocysteine have been linked to reducing the risk of heart disease, osteoporosis bone fractures, and dementia. Wheat germ also contains a phytonutrient called L-ergothioneine, which is a powerful antioxidant that is not destroyed by cooking. The fiber boost you get from wheat germ is phenomenal (Discovery Fit and Health).
