Runway Show

I promised you that I would share my pictures from this weeks fashion show and also tell you all about it, so here are the details…

Military fashion is being noticed all across the globe on the streets and the actual runway.  I representedone of the three military teams Thursday night.   Our goal was to construct an outfit out of Interior Design materials for example: vinyl wallcovering (my skirt) outdoor woven fabric (the breast plate of my coat and my coattails). This season our team of designers took inspiration browsing through every military uniform era in the archives. From Napoleonic styled jackets with high stand collars to gold bordered hussar influenced garments to admiral coats, the military jacket is a true fashion statement. It is clear from the onset that apart from wanting to transport the viewers to a Military division where fashion is crucial, the designer’s principal desire is to communicate the pieces that inspired the garments!

The hat you see is inspired from 1940’s.  The oversized epaulettes use leather fringe and paper paint samples.  On both sleeves you will notice the stripes of a Sargent and the same chevron markings on the coattails.  The breast plate of the jacket and the coattails are made from a basket weave patio furniture fabric paired with a vinyl wallcovering pencil skirt. Not so practical in the trenches we fear, but totally unique!  Often complex, constantly provocative and eternally intriguing, we absolutely love the structured lines, the intricate gold details, military fashion adds to any look!

Hope you enjoy my pictures from this years Fashion Show!  It was so much fun and I was blessed to be a part of it! An added bonus is we beat 6 other schools, taking home the award for Student Team Best of Show! The awards the winners received were beautiful, a local artist created them.  They were unique in shape, blown glass, multi-colored and each one was a little different.

Good Morning!  I am very excited for today.  I’m anxious and yet ready for it to be over all at once.  If you couldn’t guess from the title of today’s post, I will be walking the runway tonight!  I have a busy day ahead of me.  My call time is 11am and I will begin preparation for tonight’s fashion show.  This fashion show is unlike any other.  Interior Design firms and schools come together to build a themed costume from Interior Design materials.  My team was chosen to build a costume based on a military theme.  I was very excited when I was told we had military.  Military fashion, as well as aspects of military fashion have been all over the runways the last couple years.  I even noticed a since of militarism in Victoria Beckham’s runway line this year.   Anyways, I wanted to give you a sneak peak at the outfit!  I will have runway pictures for you later this week and will provide you with all the details of tonight’s event!

Enjoy!

XO,

Rachel Ashley
