Boots and Scarves

Happy Friday!  TGIF!  The weather has been so weird lately!  We had a month of really cold weather, than these past two weeks it has been warm in the day and cold in the evenings, and then just yesterday, it rained!  So random, but I love rainy weather, because it is pretty much warm and sunny all year on the West Coast!  During the winter I seem to dress in layers, because it’s cold in the morning and then by mid-afternoon its warm.  Boots and a scarf will get you through the day until the sun goes down and it begins to get chilly again!  BTW, I love scarves I think they are one of the best accessories to an outfit in the winter (and sometimes the summer too).  They keep you very warm when wrapped around your neck, they don’t usually take away from an outfit, they usually add a splash of color or sophistication to it. Wouldn’t you agree?   I took the same sweater dress you saw here, and instead of mixing brown with it I mixed black.  I love how you can wear clothing so many different ways, it make searching through your closet so much fun!  I love taking pieces in my closet and wearing them a way I never have before.  I think so many bloggers are great at this!  You see a lot of bloggers use dresses as shirts or even as a skirt, by layering other articles of clothing on top!  I love bloggers and I love all the fun hints and tricks we share with each other!  Little shout out to all my fellow blogger peeps, I have so much fun visiting your blogs and finding out how to mix and match my wardrobe!  Anyways, have a fabulous Friday!

XO,

Rachel Ashley

Wow!  What a week!  My week ended Monday night!  I worked pretty much non-stop all last week and into this past Monday!  I needed Tuesday to catch up! Personal appointments (i.e. getting my hair done), working events til wee hours of the night, wedding activities, etc. consumed my week and I had so much fun despite the exhaustion.  Oh and I am excited to show you all, my new hair!  These pictures will not reflect my new “do”  but I you will see it this week!  Make it a great hump day!

Rachel Ashley

Generation Flashback

I was so excited to wear this outfit, because it was my grandmothers!  I felt like a little girl playing dress up in my grandma’s closet.  I remember her wearing this orange coat and scarf all the time during the winter months.  I don’t remember seeing her in this dress, but I fell in love with the dress, as soon as my mom showed it to me.  The dress has beautiful structure and pleating, making it very flattering!  I love the bright royal blue color with the orange, one of my absolute favorite color combo’s!  The dress is by SCARLETT and its 65% acetate and 35% rayon.  You don’t see acetate used in clothes as often as you use to.  Acetate is  more frequently used to make occasions clothing such as bridal attire and party dresses, due to its excellent drape, lustre and  dye-fastness.  It also breathes well and is very comfortable to wear!  I loved pairing my grandmother’s dress with this chunky pearl necklace, that looks vintage, but I purchased it a Francesca’s this past year.  My bag is from Nordstrom’s (long time ago) and my initial appeal to this bag was how it looked very similar to the bags carried in the 1940′s (sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era!).   A little vintage and a little new is always a fun way to dress, especially when the vintage pieces were worn by your family!  I know my grandma would have loved to see me in her dress, but really she did, because I could feel her smiling down upon on me from heaven.

Have a fabulous Thursday!

Rachel Ashley

Stepping Out

Posted by on Jan 17, 2012 in Fashionably Fashionable | 0 comments

Good morning, I sure enjoyed my day off yesterday!  Having a three day weekend is always a gift!  I had a rough weekend, although relaxing, I had time to reflect a lot.  I know I usually don’t get heavy on my blog, but I am about to, because today I feel the urge to write about it.  Maybe it will bless somebody else!

Do you ever struggle with your purpose in life?  Do you ask yourself, what am I doing, where am I going and how is God going to use me? If you haven’t, that might be a bad thing, but it might be good too, who knows!  I know for me I feel like a lost sheep at times.  I know one of my problems is that I “think” too much!  I ask too many questions and I have a hard time stepping out in faith.  I feel like I step out in faith a lot, but I am only kidding myself, because I know I hold back.  The unknown is scary!  But then sometimes I think if we knew everything that would be just as scary.  God created this beautiful place called earth and He desires for us to live out everyday glorifying Him and His kingdom, but yet so many of us hold back.  We don’t realize our full potential!   I know for me, it is easy to speak life and purpose into other peoples lives, because I fully believe God has great great plans in store for His children.  But I know I fail miserably, at times, believing in the purpose God has for me.  I am reminded that without faith and patience I will not inherit the promises God has for me.  Impatience is a sign of pride, and the only answer to pride is humility!  In 1 Peter 5:6 we are told to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He will exalt us!  So the key is patience!  Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.  Wow, I need to repeat that sentence multiple times when I get up in the morning!   I hope this message is as encouraging to those reading as it is for me to write.  I don’t mean to get all heavy on you, but I know it is a new year and so many of us question who we are and where we are going.  I encourage you (and myself) to seek the plans God has for you and stop letting yourself get in the way.  God loves you and me so much and He has great plans in store for us!  Have a happy Tuesday!

XO,

Rachel Ashley

My New/Fun Orange Scarf

Posted by on Mar 10, 2011 in Fashionably Fashionable | 0 comments

I was so excited to wear my orange scarf, it is very colorful and I knew it would make a cute statement.  I found this scarf at Old Navy for $3.00 – I had to have it!  It is so cute!  I think scarves are a fun way to jazz up outfits – they are a great fashion accessory, when they aren’t being used for warmth!
